Christmas Wrap-Up

December 27, 2004

Chrismas was great fun for Jess and I. Here are three sets of pictures from:

Jess and I spent a quiet Christmas Eve in each other’s company. We spent the day getting the house all cleaned up after a week of baking cakes & cookies and last minute gift wrapping. Jess made some yummy Chicken Vino Bianco for dinner. We ate, then Jess told me I had to open one gift that night. It was a DVD copy of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, my favorite Christmas movie. We fell asleep on the new futon as we watched it.

A New Bass Plays

December 27, 2004

I got a bass guitar for Christmas! With all the super funtimes of the holdiay weekend behind, I finally got to sit down, set it up, and play with it.

Here is a short mp3 that I recorded using my new bass and a semi-hollow guitar.

Note: My bass isn’t the color pictured in the link above, it’s actually “Antique Burst, tortoise shell pickguard.” I’ll post pictures of it and the rest of our Christmas pics as I sort through them.

A New Futon

December 24, 2004

“You guys want a futon? I’ve got enough wood to make one like ours.”

It’s good to know a guy. Jessie’s dad made this futon for us. He finished building it last weekend and brought it over. I put a few coats of tung oil on it this week, and here it is, in all its majesty!

Steamed!

December 24, 2004

Our new windows don’t steam up like our old windows did. That’s probably a pretty good thing. Maybe we should think about replacing our doors, too!

Happy Pre-HoHo Day!

December 24, 2004

HoHo’s coming tonight! To get you ready, here’s a really creepy pic from last Christmas morn. We’re not really sure what’s up with that little girl reaching for Jessie’s head!

Do Not Fold

December 22, 2004

Something interesting came in the mail today. Looks like a new credit card that spent a little bit of time getting beat-up and pushed around by the bigger, meaner envelopes and packages in the mail system. I mean, it got roughed up so much that the card inside is showing through on the outside of the envelope.

Over in the left hand side above the address it says, “NOTICE TO RECIPIENT: Important material enclosed for immediate review. Do not discard.”

Wow. It must really be important. I sure am glad that even though the card rubbed against the envelope so much that it’s imprinted on the outside, at least it’s not really legible. Phew! That was a close one.

Oh, Wait! The part of the envelope that looks worn from a card rubbing against it isn’t real at all! It’s printed on the envelope!

Turns out it’s a pre-approval for a Bank of America VISA card. I’ve never been in any way associated with Bank of America. I’ve never had any accounts with them; I’ve never applied for any cards from them. This is a completely unsolicited bit of junk mail – snail-SPAM, to use the parlance of our times. Isn’t it disgusting the tactics these horrible companies take up when trying to get you to open their garbage? I’ve seen plenty of credit card pre-approvals that try to make you think a real credit card is contained within, in which case you’d have no choice but to open it. But this is, by far, the lowest, slimiest example of marketing-trash I’ve seen.

This is Candy, I’m having fun!

December 20, 2004

Truffles aside, this is Jessie’s first attempt at making candy. She made torrone, courtesy of Emeril. Torrone is basically nougat, made with honey, almonds, sugar, and egg whites. It’s goooo-ooood, Clark.
