Goings On

May 29, 2006

The weather was very nice for us on this Memorial Day weekend. A bit hot, though. Today Pittsburgh saw it’s first official 90° day since 2003. Regardless of the heat, we still got lots done around the yard. On Saturday morning, with the help of Jessie’s sister & parents we poured the final concrete pad of our driveway area:

Cakes

May 29, 2006

For your drooling pleasure, here are pictures of some cakes that Jess recently made. First, here’s a picture of the Mother’s Day cake she made a couple of weeks ago. It’s decorated with buttercream hydrangeas:

Next, here are pictures of the cake she made to honor Kevin and Andrea’s pending arrival, decorated with fondant figurines:

Then and Now

May 14, 2006

Looking at the pictures I posted yesterday of the gardens, I though it might be neat to post then-and-now pictures. For your enjoyment, below are exterior shots of the house as it was when we bought it in August of 2003 and as it sits today.

May 13, 2006

Window Boxes

May 10, 2006

The window planter boxes that we bought at Suburban Landscape on Saturday are now installed. I put up two of them on Monday evening, three last night, and the last one today after work. I’m sure they’ll look a whole lot better after we get some plants in them, but I just wanted to share…

New Flower Gardens

May 7, 2006

We spent pretty much all of this weekend preparing our new flower gardens in front of the house. We defined their edges, turned the soil, and planted eight roses and three red-twigged dogwoods. We also purchased some window planter boxes, but didn’t have time to install them. They’ll be going up soon.

Here are some more pictures.

That’s 23 tons?

May 5, 2006

Well, it just arrived. Our shiny new pile of dirt. 23 tons (exactly one triaxle-full) of screened top soil. Sure doesn’t look like much, does it? The pile actually looks smaller in this picture than it does in real life. We plan to use this dirt to fill in our flower beds and to give the grass something to sink its roots into in the back yard, which currently looks more like a strip mine than a suburban landscape.
