Autumn Leaf Festival, 2007

October 8, 2007

On Saturday Jess, Cindy, and I went up to Clarion, PA to hook up with some friends, stop by to see my dad at his cabin, climb the fire tower in Cook Forest, and eat junk food at Foodstock, aka ALF – Autumn Leaf Festival. Cindy and I took some pictures along the way…

$200 Toenail

October 8, 2007

We had a late night last night. Just before dark I was playing frisbee with Simon in the back yard, when he came back limping. One of his toenails broke… off. Not completely off, though. We couldn’t be so lucky. It broke mostly off. And it hurt him too much to let me take it the rest of the way off. I tried. I tried to clip it lightly with nail clippers, but he wouldn’t even let me touch the toe.

So off to the emergency vet we went for a 9:00 PM Emergency appointment. They numbed his foot with a shot of something or other and pulled the toenail off. They then wrapped his foot up in a $26 bandage and gave us some meds and we were home by about 10:00. In bed by 11:45. We usually get to bed by 10:30 since we get up at 5:30, so this morning was kinda sucky.

The meds are actually antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory. His nails were infected, which made them really brittle. That’s why it broke in the first place. It’s the second one to break this summer, but the first one came off cleanly. I was going to call to make a vet appointment for this weekend to have them looked at and get some drugs for him, but now we don’t have to. So I guess it’s not that bad. Plus Simon got to wear a wicked red booty!

While I have your attention, I can give an update on that rocking chair I’m making. Well, I haven’t made much progress on it. Last week the weather was really nice for this time of year, so I spent my evenings scrubbing then painting our exposed foundation outside. It just has the blue-gray primer coat on it now, but it looks a ton better than it did. Next we have to apply a coat or two of a beige color we bought for it. I’ve also been working some late nights and over this past weekend, so the rocking chair kind of got bumped to the back burner. It’ll be done soon, though. I just have to make the arms and rockers for it, make a seat base for Jess to upholster, and finish it with polyurethane. Then it’ll be done and pictured here. That’s all I got.
